Ruscombe Green: Great short video from FoE for politicians

Ruscombe Green: Great short video from FoE for politicians

This Friends of the Earth movie is worth a watch - do pass the link onto others and make sure all politicians see it! We want politicians that take climate change seriously and act - not just hot air.

http://www.350.org/invitation

found out about 350.org today from another local blog
worth getting involved in.... please check out the site

350.org was founded by U.S. author Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public, and a team of university friends.

invite below is just a small part of what is written on 350.org's site

The Invitation

Dear World,

This is an invitation to help build a movement--to take one day and use it to stop the climate crisis.

On October 24, we will stand together as one planet and call for a fair global climate treaty. United by a common call to action, we'll make it clear: the world needs an international plan that meets the latest science and gets us back to safety.

This movement has just begun, and it needs your help.

Here's the plan: we're asking you, and people in every country on earth, to organize an action in their community on October 24. There are no limits here--imagine bike rides, rallies, concerts, hikes, festivals, tree-plantings, protests, and more. Imagine your action linking up with thousands of others around the globe. Imagine the world waking up.

If we can pull it off, we'll send a powerful message on October 24: the world needs the climate solutions that science and justice demand.

It's often said that the only thing preventing us from tackling the climate crisis quickly and equitably is a lack of political will. Well, the only thing that can create that political will is a unified global movement--and no one is going to build that movement for us. It's up to regular people all over the world. That's you.

audio clip - Five Man Electrical Band

changed my audio clip today... love these lyrics (and the tune) ... wish someone would put a better video on youtube for this

Well I’m a stranger here in this place called Earth
and I was sent down here to discover the worth
of your little blue planet third from the sun
Come on and show me what you’ve done

We've got the aeroplane, we got the automobile
We got sky scraping buildings made of glass and steel
We’ve got synthetic food that nearly tastes real
And a little white pill that makes you feel
Hey a whole lot better when you get out of bed
You take one in the morning for the long day ahead
We got everything everybody needs to survive
Surely the good life has arrived

I think your atmosphere is hurting my eyes
And your concrete mountains are blacking out the skies
now I don’t say that you’ve been telling me lies
But why do I hear those children’s cries?

I’m a stranger here - i’m just looking around

I see the aeroplanes carrying the bombs
Why you’ve even found people to drop them on
You know you can’t keep what you take by force
but it’s only my first impression of course

Well I’m a stranger here on your planet Earth

We got the rivers and the mountains and the valleys and the trees
We got the birds in the sky we got the fish in the sea
We got the –
ohhh you crazy fools don’t you know you had it made
you were living in paradise
but take it from one who knows
who knows the gates of Heaven can close
I only pray that you take my advice
because Paradise won’t come twice

well I’m a stranger here in this place called Earth
and I was sent down here to discover the worth
of your little blue planet third from the sun
I think i'll go back home where I come from

the lettuce

okay, this is the second day in a row that i have been asked about the lettuce on my blog
rather the second day in a row that someone has um ... complained about it

is it really that awful to look at?

Norm said it was creepy and reminded him of the following movies.......
"The Blob" and  "It came from outer space"

so, the lettuce pictured is the first salad made from our garden last year
it was delicious and when I see the picture, i salivate

i am considering changing the photo.... but only after I heard Darlene didn't like it ...we can't have Norm thinking otherwise :-)

so, as soon as i have the 3rd complaint (legitimate) I will start looking for a new pic
