THE SECRET LIFE OF PLANTS

"Without plants we would neither breathe nor eat. On the undersurface of every leaf a million movable lips are engaged in devouring carbon dioxide and expelling oxygen. All together, 25 million square miles of leaf surface are daily engaged in this miracle of photosynthesis, producing oxygen and food for man and beast"

an excerpt taken from the introduction of Peter Tompkins & Christopher Bird's great explorative work of plants and their relation to mankind

garlic

hummus, hamos, houmous, hommos, hommus, hummos, hummous or humus

whipped up a batch of hummous with garlic from our garden

~ i add both ground and whole cumin to my hummous

cabbage.... slugs, bugs & too much rain

stopped at the garden to pick a couple tomatoes & wandered over to pick a cucumber... noticed one cabbage had been picked .... i didn't have much hope for them as they seemed to be in poor shape...
picked one to bring home... sliced in half... and sure enough it didn't look very good ... plus there were at least 5 slugs and about the same amount of bugs crawling around inside
i managed to salvage some of the cabbage... i think we can blame this on too much rain

last week i got some much needed weeding in (weeds were huge) and picked a good batch of yellow beans... they were delicious
